Please be aware that race day is the start of Daylight Savings Time – don’t forget to make your clocks spring forward so that you don’t miss the race start. The race will begin promptly at 9:00AM, and the start will be staggered to accommodate the large number of runners.
Packet Pickup – You must pick up your race number and timing chip before the race. You will have two opportunities to do this, one on Saturday before the race and one on race morning. We would like to encourage everyone who can to pick up their packet on Saturday, March 13th in order to make race morning more enjoyable. There is a very limited window of time for packet pickup on race morning, so in order to keep the race on schedule we encourage early packet pickup.
Packet pickup times and locations:
Saturday, March 13th
Sports Basement 1177 Kern Avenue , Sunnyvale , CA
1:00PM – 3:00PM
Sunday, March 14th (Race morning)
Vasona Park 333 Blossom Hill Blvd , Los Gatos , CA
Gateway Pavilion Group Area
7:30AM – 8:45AM
The race will start promptly at 9:00AM (with staggered start) – so please be ready to go, race number and timing chip on, at that time.
Timing Chips – This race will use an electronic timing chip system. You will be given a timing chip attached to a Velcro ankle strap at the same time you pick up your race number. THE CHIP NEEDS TO BE RETURNED after the race. If you pick up your chip and do not race for some reason, you are responsible for returning the chip. At the finish line we will have volunteers who will assist in removing the chip. If you do not return your chip you will be charged a $35 fee to replace the chip. The timing chips help us to ensure the accuracy of timing the event and make results available much more quickly than other timing procedures. The reusable chips as opposed to disposable ones help us to keep this event eco-friendly.
Parking – There is a $6 per vehicle parking fee within Vasona Park as well as limited spaces near the start/finish area. We recommend carpooling, public transportation, riding a bike, getting dropped off, or other forms of transportation to keep the amount of vehicles in the park to a minimum. Please refer to the map of Vasona Park at http://www.sccgov.org/SCC/docs/Parks and Recreation, Department of (DEP)/attachments/41793vasona.pdf for parking locations. The start/finish area will be near the Gateway Pavilion Group Area. You may also be able to find parking in the neighborhoods across the street from the park. If you plan on parking in Vasona Park , please arrive early to pay for parking and find a spot close to the start/finish area.
Start line – We ask that you “self seed” at the start line, meaning that faster people start in the front and slower runners/ walkers start in the back of the pack. There will be signs at the start with approximate pace times, please start in the area with your expected pace time.
Jogging strollers – Though we love your children, we strongly discourage the use of jogging strollers on this course as the trail will be in use in both directions and is not very wide. Also, on the 10K course there is a short, but fairly steep hill that would be challenging for pushing a stroller as well as a section on dirt/gravel. If you absolutely must bring your child along, you will be asked to start in the back of the starting pack, regardless of your running pace in order to insure the safety of other runners.
Dogs – Though we love dogs please do not bring them to run with. The trails will be much to crowded and the presence of dogs will be a safety hazard.
Water/Aid Stations – There will be 2 water stations on the 5K course and 3 on the 10K course. There are also limited public drinking fountains along the course. You may bring your own water bottles, or use the paper cups provided. There will be permanent and portable restrooms at the start/finish area as well as permanent restrooms in various places along the course. In order to make this a green and enjoyable event for all, please dispose of any gel wrappers, bottles, or any other garbage you may want to shed yourself of during the race at any of the aid stations throughout to race. Keep in mind, volunteers will need to collect any trash left on the course, please dispose of your items as close to the aid stations as possible.
Weather – It is still too early to predict the weather for event day, but the run will occur rain or shine, please come prepared for predicted weather.
Post Race Festival – Participants will receive a goody bag and event tee shirt (please be aware quantities are limited and sizes are not guaranteed) at the end of the race. There will be several vendors on site after the run. There will be free food and drinks at the post race festival along with a free raffle for all participants based on your race number all provided by our sponsors.
Shoe Recycling – As part of our sustainable efforts, we will be holding a shoe recycling drive at the event. Please bring your used athletic shoes that you would like to donate. Shoes with life remaining in them will be given to people in need and will be worn again, while shoes at the end of their lives will be shipped off to the Nike Reuse a Shoe program and will be fully recycled.
Awards – We will be providing award certificates and a small memento from the event for the top 3 male and female finishers in both races as well as the top 3 male and female in several age groups in both races.
Pictures – Professional photographers will be on site photographing runners at carious points on the course. You will receive an email after the event with information on how to order photos. You can also search for photos online at http://www.myepevents.com/.
Please note that there is a no refund/ cancellation policy for this event.
